Netherlands Antilles
The World Convention is currently building a global reference for the nearly 180 countries and territories where we know there are Christian –
Churches of Christ – Disciples of Christ congregations. Rather than wait for
comprehensive, complete information we are putting up details that we
readily have available. If you can correct or add to this information,
please contact us with details at

Reference for further information will be in the form of web sites and
mailing addresses.
Background
The Netherlands Antilles consist of two very different island groups in
two parts of the Caribbean. These islands are a self-governing part of
the Kingdom of The Netherlands. The vast majority of their income, 98%,
is based upon the petroleum industry. Because of the petroleum products
and tourism these islands enjoy a high per capita income and a well-developed
infrastructure.
Initial activity in the Netherlands Antilles by the American a cappella
Churches of Christ was made by Frank Thornton who made personal contacts
and placed World Bible School advertisements in the local papers. After
repeated trips to the Netherlands Antilles by Thornton a congregation
was formed in about 1983. Roger Graves is another American missionary
who has shared in the work in the Netherlands Antilles.
